Dr. G. W. Sandy Schaefer is retired and this was the last bio I used for a presentation on Music Advocacy at the Nebraska Music Educators Conference in Lincoln Nebraska in 2015. If you are interested in more detail you may follow this link to an academic resume, personal details, family interest.

Dr. G. W. Sandy Schaefer is currently the Director of Music Industry and Percussion Studies at Chadron State College. In 2013, Dr Schaefer was the Nebraska State College System Teaching Excellence Award recipient. Sandy has performed as a classical percussionist and a jazz musician on both drum set and vibes; recorded for Summit Records, Canyon Records, the Wisconsin School Music Association. His publications include A Students Guide To The Drum Set, Here To Stay: Rock and Roll Through the 1970s, and contributions to Milt Jackson: Transcribed Solos of the Master

Dr Schaefer has served as President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and the Nebraska Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators.

 

 

Sandy recently contributed jazz vibe transcriptions for Milt Jackson: Transcribed Solos of the Master published by Mallet works music. His drum set method book was published by Iron Man Percussion Publications and received a wonderful review in Percussive Notes, the journal of the Percussive Arts Society. In 2008, the Dorset Group released the 3rd edition of his history of rock and roll, Here To Stay: Rock and Roll Through the 1970s. He has also published many transcriptions for the marimba ensemble with Permus Publications and Really Great Music Publications.

Dr Schaefer has served as President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and the Nebraska Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators.
